I wish for...

... a squad that is so good we can't decide who should start.

If we get M'Vila and Giroud then that will be the case in midfield and up front!

Then I'd just want one more versatile defender - Sakho would be ideal!!!
Squad with players better than we have, who go to lesser clubs:

Stekelenburg (4m)
Szczesny
Sagna--Mertesacker--Koscielny--Gibbs
Jenkinson--?????--Vermaelen--Monreal
?????--Wilshere/Arteta
Ramsey--Wilshere/Arteta
Cazorla
Rosicky
Walcott------Podolski
Chamberlain------?????
?????
Giroud

Whilst I wouldn't class Sakho a versatile defender I certainly agree, and would certainly love Sakho to be a replacement for Djourou and Squillaci.
With Benayoun gone, Arshavin not coming back and Ryo likely on loan again we really need another quality wide player imo. Podolski gives us an extra option, but it's no different than playing Walcott on the wing - his non preferred position - and we've seen how well that's worked out for us.

A left back, probably Baines.
A keeper, I'd be happy with Shay Given, and would be ecstatic if we got Lloris.
An attacking midfielder, I wanted Kagawa but now he's gone, Gotze would be expensive but I'd expect him to be worth it.
Given
Sagna Vermaelen Koscienly Baines
Song M'Vila
Podolski Wilshere Gotze
van Persie

You're happy to ruin Gibbs Arsenal career then? Chesney too? That XI would have no width whatsoever.
Personally I think they've both got a far too high ceiling of potential as young footballers to be disgarding them. We could do with signing experienced players on those positions who can play as back up, but not players who'd expect to start, we've got far weaker areas which need strengthening with regular starters.
Gibbs should be starting next season.

How would 3-4-3 do for us?

Koscielny - Mertesacker - Vermaelen

M'Vila

Arteta-----------Song

Arteta/Rosicky

Chamberlain - van Persie - Podolski

That would include all our best players. As for Sagna, well, his leg injury won't allow him to play as many games as he used to--so, this could be our strongest formation. van Persie could even take the free role on the right, with Giroud in the middle.

Wilshere will take up one of the CM positions when he returns.

I think that's exactly what has led to us not winning anything in the past seven years.
The mentality that prefers to protect the youngsters rather than choosing players who will give us the title.
We've always been attacking from the center, and non of our strikers as of now (not considering Giroud) are header specialists as far as I know. That's exactly how Chelsea and United raped us in the past 3 years, knowing that we have absolutely no width.

I would have the France right -back. Newcastle are supposed to be after him. I want him because Sagna will probably get injured again. If he does we cannot rely on Jenkinson. Not yet anyway.

I disagree with everything you're saying, except for Gibbs starting next season.
Chesney needs an experienced keeper to start ahead of him. Someone he can learn from and compete with. He can only get better that way.

To the people who want Baines:
Gibbs isn't perfect in any way, but we don't necessarily need perfect. Look at United; they had multiple different right-backs throughout the season all of which were well below par. Gibbs will make 1 or 2 mistakes throughout the season, but I think the width he gives us is extremely important. Also, his defense isn't so terrible that he will be a liability every game, only against brilliant RWs or skillful players. The only reason I would buy Baines is for his free-kicks ;)

I like the three at the back option, but I agree with Friedslice that Gibbs should be a mainstay.

He was being praised regularly before that slip against ManUre in the CL leading to Park's goal... after that it was just a case of injury after injury. Personally I've never questioned his quality, I just felt that putting him at left back was a waste of a damn fine attacking player. He tore Inter a new one in the Emirates cup (2009???), but since then his defensive work has improved massively, he's no longer a winger playing in defence like Santos.

I think Gibbs is good enough to be the regular left-back. The only downside with him is well known, He has been injury prone. There is no need to even sign another LB. Never mind break the bank for one.

:rofll:

I'll run it by my girlfriend and see what she says. I know she thinks Wilshere and Walcott are cute, Vermaelen's hansom... and she's definitely taken to RvP since he's started going grey

Don't think she'll say much about Szczesny, Kos, Poldi... and certainly not Sagna though!

If she slags off Sagna I'll just have to show her a picture of his girlfriend and say "How do you think I feel!?!"
