Arsenal are on the trail of one of the hottest prospects in Italian football – Acharaf Laazar from Serie B side Verase.
The Moroccan youngster has been dubbed the 'new Gareth Bale' by Varese Sporting Director Mauro Milanese, who, when playing for QPR, recommended the then Southampton youngster to AC Milan before he was snapped up by Tottenham.
Laazar, 20, who has lived in Italy since he was a child and will be entitled to an Italian passport this summer, has been converted from a winger to a full-back and has been earning rave reviews since the switch of position.
The Gunners are likely to face competition for Laazar's signature, however, with Everton are also understood to be interested, along with a host of clubs across Europe, including Milan and La Liga outfit Real Mallorca.
His agent Ali Barat, of LYD Sports, told talkSPORT: “There’s been a lot of interest from plenty of clubs from around Europe. He’s very similar to Gareth Bale in terms of his pace and athleticism. I think he will be a big player in the Premier League very soon.”
Never even heard of him, would be interesting to hear from someone who follows Italian football. Unlikely to be much to it though, talkSPORT are barely more reliable than Caught Offside - but agent quotes add credibility to the story.
