Clint Dempsey

Postby TRA Dial Square » Sat Apr 07, 2012 3:37 pm

Not the "greatest" of sources but still, it's out there...

Fulham Football Club’s United States international winger, Clint Dempsey is rumored to be a high profile target for Arsenal this coming summer.

With 13 goals this season for the Cottagers, and having broken several American player records this season in the English Premier League, the Texas born player is looking at perhaps the biggest summer of his life.

Dempsey has been on a rich vein of form all season and is arguably in the best form of his career heading into this summer transfer window.

With Fulham being a squad usually forced into selling players to make new purchases, as unfortunate as it would be for Martin Jol’s side to lose Dempsey it may just be necessary for the future of the club moving forward with fresh talent.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is usually not one to purchase players already nearing their prime age such as Dempsey at the age of 29, but the Gunners have truly been in need of some quality veteran skill on the ball in recent seasons.

Dempsey still has at least two or three top seasons in his tank and a three year contract would not be a bad idea for the Gunners.

The Daily Express has broken news that an offer in the range of £10 million could be made to Cottagers for the former Furman Paladin and New England Revolution attacker.

If he does move to Arsenal you can rest assured that Dempsey is sure to be tested as to just how good he is with a chance to participate in the UEFA Champions League.

On top of that, his move and his performance for Arsenal will undoubtedly set the benchmark, either good or bad, for United States internationals at the highest level.

Arsenal could be set to make a summer move for Fulham midfielder cum striker Clint Dempsey.

The American international, previously linked with a move to Liverpool, has caught the eye of Arsene Wenger after a stunning campaign that has seen him score 19 times.

According to the Daily Express, Arsenal would need to stump up £10 million pound for the American international a sum that Wenger may be prepared to pay as he looks to bolster his squad.

Any more for the 29 year old could be complicated by the fact that Fulham boss Martin Jol is keen to tie the player down to a new deal.

1: You've just completely contradicted yourself with this comment.

2: I beg to differ. Dempsey would be an amazing addition to our squad.

Wouldn't mind him actually, has a scoring ability, something what we lack in the first place.
Altough, I would prefer him to just play EPL games, not CL.

Dempsey is a good player no doubt but he's not an Arsenal starter imo.
If he was bought as back up to our strikers then he'd be top quality back up but I don't know if he'd put up with being on the bench.
I'd certainly rather have him on the bench than Park, Chamakh, Vela or Bendtner.

15 league goals from midfield....12 league goals last season, and best part is he doesnt take the penalties. If he is not good enough I wonder that Ramsey and Rosicky are.

I really dont get Arsenal fans when they look down at players who plays for smaller club. Wake up, this is not 2005....we have very few top class players and players like Dempsey would walk in our team with ease.

Do you think Fulham fans would take Rosicky or Ramsey instead of Dempsey?

He'll be 30 next season, don't think he'd be worth it tbh. No doubt he's a good player though.

Doesn't Wenger only offer 1 year contracts to players over 30?

I can also see a signing like this happening long before the likes of Hazard ect ect

they dont play in the same position. Areta is defensive midfielder......Dempsey is the opposite
