Christopher Samba wants Blackburn move as Arsenal and Spurs mull bids

North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs could be on course to lock horms over Blackburn defender Christopher Samba in January, after the powerful defender said he wants to leave the club over the sacking of Sam Allardyce.

Samba, who has been one of the Premier League's most consistent defenders since his move to Rovers in 2007, has expressed his disappointment at the treatment of Allardyce.

And after an outburst in a national newspaper this week, the team captain looks set to put in a written transfer request with the hope of quitting Ewood Park in January.

MORE: Allardyce - Blackburn sacking was someone else's fault

'If this is the way the club's going to be run from now on, I don't want to be part of it and I want to leave,' he told the Sun.

'As captain it's very difficult to say this but I've thought long and hard about it. Nobody in football understands the decision to sack Sam.

'We could have been relegated last year and Sam saved the club, so how can he be treated like this now?'

Despite suggesting last month that Arsenal would not enter the transfer market, recent comments attributed to Wenger suggest he will look to add to his squad - if he can identify a player who will add another dimension to his squad at the right price.

While Samba, who is rated at around £8million by Rovers, certainly provides this, Wenger looks certain to face competition from other interested parties - most notably their nearest rivals.

Harry Redknapp has been a known admirer of Samba for several months - with speculation suggesting the Spurs boss had a bid for the physical centre-back rejected by Rovers in the summer.

But Samba, from the French-speaking African state of Congo, is not thought to have made any considered decisions on his future yet and will await offers next month.

£8M is a bargain.

All speculation really.
But even at £8m I reckon Wenger will say the price is too prohibitive and we'll see Arry buy him for £5m....

I'd easily have him over Squillaci, he has some power and confidence to his defending.

It needs to happen! Exactly what we need in the back four, a proper beastly CB. Plus hes a fluent French speaker so communication wont be a problem!

Im just hoping that this signing might be too much for Wenger to pass up.

Having said all that, he'll end up at one of the other title contenders/hopefuls.

Bugger.

He is one of the few big defenders i woudn't actually mind if we signed...

It does make me laugh that AW has overlooked a French speaking African defender, right here in our own League...

I think he is very underated and at £8m would be a steal, great in the air at either end, fast, can even play as a striker!!!!!

Why the f**k hasn't AW signed him yet? He is everything he wants in a defender.

We seriously might be playing the what if game at the end of the season though after this winter window. What if it really came down to dropping 8 million dollars?

Did Squllaci get a long term deal? Hes the only one i could see making way but we just signed. Unless he goes for 5. Which, i dont feel is too much of a problem, you perform, you play. Plus, if we got another CB, it would allow Djourou to play at DM (think hes done it before effctively) which solves another problem.

I might write AW an open letter....

He wouldn't listen to you so it wouldn't make a difference.

For a man who relies an awful lot on logic, he makes more illogical decisions than he does logical.

He's an economics major. He probably runs a statistical regression on the midfield when every other coach is telling him Diaby still sucks!

Would'nt you just love to pick his brain one on one, no cameras, no reporters, just a coversation to find out what hes really thinking.

Christ, he could have cracked up ages ago like Robert Mugabe or that General off of Apocolypse Now, still clinging on to power but no one who could ask, has had the balls to ask 'AW, is everything OK?'

Hmmmmm
