Rubén Lopes should be starting, decent fullbacks, experienced defence, good midfielders and their wingers aren't too bad

Argentina have a wank keeper, full backs aren't great, shaky CBs, an okay midfield then all of a sudden about 15 quality strikers

For as long as I can remember Argentina have always been such a top-heavy team.

the whole messi vs ronaldo thing is so boring and trite. we have two great players in one era, why do we need to run either one of them down?

Ask the Messi fan boys. Jealousy I'd say.

nobody actually expects Portugal to win anything.

everybody expects Argentina to do so... w/ that wack handofgod crackhead Maradona taking potshots at them all the way.
must be ugly.

Messi's finals havent been up to his own standards. Neither have Ronaldos UFC finals...where he was a complete passenger until he had to take penalties.

only so much an individual can do, like sims said.

its unreasonable for either country

Messi has always been underwhelming at international level, not just in the Finals.

And that hand of God crackhead achieved something Messi can only dream of. Just saying.

That's incredibly harsh, even if he's never hit Barcelona levels. He's scored 55 goals for his country, including 28 in competitions. If he wasn't Messi and just some other player playing at that level he'd be lauded for that return.

There seems to be an expectation on him to single-handedly win tournaments for Argentina all on his own.

No, but I do expect him to actually turn up in the finals; WC and two consecutive Copa Finals he was a ghost and embarrassingly retired after ballsing it up.

His overall contribution to Argentina is muted, there is a huge disparity between the Messi at Barca and Messi at the national level. Plus, it's not like Argentina haven't been stacked with talent, they've been laced with world class players - namely attacking ones - throughout his international career.

achieved thru cheating*

it baffles me.

anyone who intentionally scores via handball on a stage that large
and runs about celebrating... somehow this just gets forgotten/ignored?
its bullshit. that goal was the fulcrum on which that tournament turned.

for me, only player on argentina who plays to club level is javier mascherano.

higuain bottles badly.
aguero and dimaria are not as impactful either.
