Hebei Fortune, the Chinese Super League team who want to offer Barcelona forward Lionel Messi 100m euros (£83.7m) a season, already pay former Arsenal striker Gervinho £83,000 a game. (Sport, via Sky Sports)

That is obscene. Beyond ludicrous at this point.

Can't decide what's worse, hearing and remembering "former Arsenal striker Gervinho" or that he's paid more than Ozil and Sanchez per week if he plays two games a week....

Axel Witsel the next player who's off to China.

Contract worth €80m spread over 4 years.

Hope he has played his last game for Belgium. What a plonker.

Few would reject a salary around that figure. Chinese revolution in football is turning heads, but can we blame anyone - when the money involved is astronomical?

It's strange considering he looked desperate for a move to the Premier League in the summer, but Zenit ended up rejecting Everton's bid. Juventus were also in for him and he could have signed for them on a free come this summer.

It's his decision, but to me it's a signal he no longer takes his career seriously and should therefore lose his spot in the national team to a player who does have ambition and plays at a non-negligible level on a weekly basis. Nainggolan and Dembélé come to mind.

Yeah they rejected a €6m bid, but he could have signed a pre-contract which would allow him to join them on a free come the end of the season.
