Will the new rangers be allowed straight into the SPL?

Postby Reverend Gooner » Thu Jun 14, 2012 5:41 pm

What do you reckon?

Personally I think they should start from division 3 but I reckon they will be allowed in.

The SPL probably can't survive without Rangers, or Celtic if it happened to them, therefore they will likely be allowed in.

Yeah they have to start at the top for the sake of Scottish football.

I think the majority of Scottish Club owners would agree.

They will get huge crowds starting at the bottom and get promoted every year. In the 3 years it takes to get back, the SPL will nearly be a part time league due to it.

Talk about being caught against a rock and hard place.

Make an example of them, send them to the 3rd division the SPL WILL die, nobody will want to join Celtic as the main intention for them to play in the big derby will not be there, celtic will be sucked down into the rest of the total dross and Scottish league will turn into the welsh league.

Let them back into the premierleague, is the best opitnion however the ridiculos amount of debt will be forgiven maybe too easily with the only real punishment no europe for 3 years, not that Rangers do much in europe anyway. Celtic will still dominate but can still attract players to play in the derby.

Celtic hate rangers but Celtic NEED Rangers!

I say they have little opition but to allow them back into the SPL!

It's going to be down to the other SPL clubs to vote, apparently? (I probably missed someone else posting this)

I have a STRONG Feeling the other clubs are gonna "take the piss" and vote AGAINST them starting back in the SPL.

Although Scottish football may go down in status it may get more competitive. If Rangers disappear and Celtic decline due to lack of appeal then it will close the gap and should make it much more possible for other teams to challenge for/ win the league (after a short period of Celtic domination), even when rangers return. Surely that would be an exciting prospect for other teams?

Celtic or Rangers are not great CL teams although of course Celtic and Rangers will want to be there. However it would not be the end of the world if the league becomes a purely Europa affair in quality, especially as these teams probably would not be in any Europe anyway. Celtic may be miffed but other teams could benefit.

It will be more competitive, but the league will drop even from its lowly status to being one of europes very worst, it will struggle to get anyone into europe. it will become like said about pretty much a part time league.

Ok, I really resent the term "lowly" as it doesnt even begin to be accurate. Since when has anything in Scotland demanded a media market share that is comparable to Europe???? The level of play in the Scottish game is awesome, and in plenty of cases more physical than England. Speaking on behalf most Scots in the NE, we would love to see the Glesga teams gone, as it will spread the wealth of talent to the other teams, and we simply dont need them. It's unreasonable to ever think that the rest of our cities and towns can financiall support the kind of salaries that exist in Glascow and Edinburgh.
