I'm gonna sound old fashioned, but I think too much money is dangerous.

A rich owner could potentially leave at any time, putting us into a situation we can't get out of. Don't want us to become Leeds mk.2 (albeit under different circumstances).

You said he'd "probably be off then" TRA

@Hammered, thats not old fashioned that is a legit concern, and one I've shared for awhile now.

Was probably a misunderstanding. You said "Then he'll probably be off then" - I took 'him' as being AW.

TRA Dial Square wrote:Btw... I mean the money wouldn't go through AW, not the actual buying of the player. Just for clarification.

IE: If it's discussed to buy I dno? Falcao or w/e and Wenger says aint got enough cash, blah blah. He wants this much in wages.

Usmanov would then go "KAPOW! HERE'S THE MONIEZ ARSENE!"

.... Sound a bit more doable?

Instead of going... Right here's £30m buy a £30m player and AW comes back with 6 £5m players.

Nail on head, he would provide funds outside of what was deemed as surplus or transfer funds out of his own pocket. Not like what Chelsea currently have ie abramobitch deals with transfers manager no. 43 deals with managing those players with his advice.

I don't think it's old fashioned personally, but so many people want to go with the billionaires and get rich quick, they fail to see the consequences.

Everyone will be put off again once we see our first major casualty. Liverpool got very lucky.

If he reached the 30 percent mark a position on the board is a given. He will also have some say if not a major one in the running of the football club. once the lock-down agreement expires, it is going to be an interesting 6 months for our club as to the direction it will head in the coming years.

Zedie and A~F pretty much pinpointed it as to where I was going w/ the whole thing...

And yes, I did say he'd "probably be off then" and yes I was talking about Arsene.

But nowhere did I say anything about him being fired.

Edit: just to bring us back to something I mentioned a bit ago.

Basically there's going to be a big shakeup in the board room, not necessarily outgoings but more incomings, some younger-blood and some of the "Incumbents" may move positions. Possibly some new VPs and a couple of retirements.

Also Usmanov has agreed a deal for 9 more shares, not sure when this is due to be announced, probably at the end of the season... - A certain "Bitch" has been saying all of this since WELL BEFORE Christmas and yet I get slaughtered every time I mentioned her name but :dontknow: whatever lol.

According to the BBC Usmanov's stake in Facebook is worth $5bn ... wonder if he might use a small portion of that to take over?! Would make a quick tidy profit for Stan and could sort out our debts so that the club becomes completely self financing and able to make a more significant dent in the transfer market.

To be clear I wouldn't want us to become another City/Chelsea where the finances are completely off the scale. I just feel if the debt was cleared it would allow us to funnel whatever turnover we had straight into wages (with a more accurate structure) and slightly higher transfer fees.

Facebook? Did he just buy that today? I thought they just opened in the stock market today for the first time?

Or I guess that just makes its public, and before it was private. Not sure how it works.

Nah, he was an early(ish) investor apperently so for the money he put in he got a stake of the company which - if he sold it all today - would net him around $5bn. Frankly I'd be happy if he even gifted us 2% of that to get a few players

If he got his Facebook stock from the IPO he can't sell his shares for 880 days. Only the shares sold to brokerage firms will be sold on the open market.

Edit: And to add a little financial analysis... he's probably going to lose his shirt paying $38 a share. The IPO is underperforming already today, not raising at all to speak of today which is very uncommon for IPOs, they normally go up at on average 25%. And after holding for that long, the price will normalize. And the price is currently 100x earning, which is ridiculously high, to add perspective Apple trades at 10x earnings.

Haha, and Zynga the game maker for Facebook that also went public today is down 13% today... and the only thing keeping Facebook from going below $38 a share is the underwriter support. While a popular IPO, it's not going to be a successful one because the opening price was crazy inflated.
This space used to be more fun...

Not talking about you Leody as you actually have a handle on this sort of stuff, but this thread is full of fantasy and absolute bullshit.

Can't believe some of the nonsensical, obviously made up shit I read sometimes.

I like the fact that we're self-sufficient. We're a rarity in the Prem, a bunch of f**king odd-balls just because we operate at a profit... any other league and we would be commended!!!

The debt/s is/are soon to be cleared, we can judge the board/manager after that. The shackles will be off!
