Even with City's unlimited budget and chelski's spending power (who we finished above btw) I really don't see why we should have to settle, love him or hate him we still have a great manager. We just need a couple of signings and knock some sense into our defence.

Oh and I do not think M'Vila is the answer to all of our questions. Not sure why everyone is going mental over him to be honest.

I'd love the Champions League, but I'd love some real silverware (FA Cup).

Any cup double and 3rd would be a good season.
I'm out, pushed before I could jump.

If we are third after putting in a decent fight for the ''title'' i wouldn't mind but it would be difficult for me to take if we setup again for the 3/4th spot from the outset. i know which option is more likely to happen though so not getting my hopes too high.

Players like Santos and Per will have had their first season out of the way and will hopefully improve like Kos did this season. I know there are mixed feelings about Per, but I feel that he could be the difference between us winning or losing out on silverware next season. His and Arteta's calming influences have been really understated this season, and it's no surprise for me that we struggled at times without the two.

Good point.

There is no way we can have a repeat of last season again, i just refuse to believe that this could happen again.

An epic injury patch
2 key stars leaving
Hardly any defenders
Massive turmoil at the club

Couldnt possibly happen twice in a row.

If RvP wants to leave, he'll probably leave which will be a massive blow but again, who knows what may happen, we've had megastars leave before and have been predicted to fall out of the top 4 for years and it hasnt happened yet.

If Walcott leaves? Ill be sad to see him go, seeing as he really hasnt had anyone to complement his play for the whole season. Ill probably be one of a handful that will be sad to see the back of him, but wouldnt say hes irresplacable.

I can understand the frustrations that people have regarding the club etc, but realistically, any football club is going to find it hard to compete with teams that infinite funds at their disposal and this is the situation we find ourselves in.

A lot of these clubs have caught onto the movement that Wenger started, ie nutritionists, healthy living policies etc. and its no longer an advantage that Wenger had back in the day when we used to piss all over Manure at their height and they had to rely on referees to help them against us.

We should always aim for 1st and if the players actually do settle and gel together (which they undoubtedly will given that we may just have a preseason for them to get acquinted) who knows where they can go.

People are quick to forget those results that we ground out against Newcastle, Spuds, Liverpool and prior to that when we shot up the table and that was with a squad just approaching full health. People are also quick to point out the 8-2 battering that we took, but realistically, who on that day thought we were actually going to get a result with the injuries and turmoil that we were under?

Not I, and as ive said before, i wait for the day that we have a full squad and bench and we come up against a severely depleted Manure or Shitty or Chelsea.

Every season theres a new surprise round the corner.

Who'd have predicted Shitty to steal the PL crown from MAnure in 2 injury time minutes?

Or some weird looking bloke from the J league to give us a double in his first season?

Or Birmingham to win the League cup and be relegated in the same season?

Or Greece to win the Euro champs?

Or Newcastle to be relegated, come up straight away and get into Europe?

Not many betting men i can tell you that.

Being downcast about the coming prem season 3 days after the last one has ended makes no sense whatsoever so until i see some monumental self destruction again, ill stay positive thanks.

Well thats true. Any player we are linked to suddenly becomes Johan Cryuff. He plays in a pony league and is still just a nipper, I could be 100% wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but I really don't think we need to baby another young talented player. We need experienced players if we are going to challenge next season.

Finishing third should mean that we need to spend big to catch the top two! Instead Wenger says finishing third means we don't need to spend big!

I'd rather finish third than win the FA Cup or Carling Cup, but there's no reason why we couldn't do both.

If we actually go all out in the Summer and finish third again, I would be satisfied, as it's maximum we could possibly do.

Am gonna give Wenger one more season to win at least the FA Cup,after that I'l personally start a world-wide 'wenger-out' campaign all the way from Nigeria here.

Well if we won the Cup and finished, Say 8th where Liverpool ended up then even i would be after getting AW out. And trust me i am his biggest fan. I do not demand to win the PL but i do demand that we are challenging a bit more points wise than we have done this time.

Lets face facts...

ManUre and $hitty finished 19 points above us and will strengthen. There's no doubts about that.

ManUre will spend £30-40m

$hitty will spend £60-70m

We'll spend £20m max and maybe lose RVP/Theo in the process

Do you really think we have a chance of winning titles? We're just gonna fall more and more behind with every year that passes and that old fart Wenga and the **** on the board will never bankroll the signings we need to compete until we are out of the top 4.

By then it may be too late and that silent wanker will sell out to Usmanov and maybe then we'll finally build a team.

ManUre bought several trophies, Chavs have bought every trophy possible to win and now $hitty will buy every trophy possible. You can't win shit without proper squad investment.

Agree, not sure why anyone would think we settle for anything, but if we realistic we can not match the financial power of some clubs, tho once the stadium is paid off and if(note I say IF) the fair play regulations work correctly we will close the gap.

The one thing we can not lose Is AW.

We don't need to get the best players in the world.

We don't need to get the most expensive players in the world.

What we need are the best fits to complete our squad.

Alan Smith was the first choice of very few Gooners at the start of the 88/89 season, but he was the perfect fit to carry our team to the title.

So no, we shouldn't aim for third.

We should be looking to get the best team out there that we can, and aim to win everything. If the board and the manager don't agree they can go swivel. We can beat all the top teams. We can beat all the bottom teams.

We can win the league. :arse flag.gif:

Now ask me what I think is more likely to happen :tumbleweed:
'I ran home immediately to my wife in excitement and said, 'I've seen the nearest thing to a Brazilian footballer you'll ever see in our Academy…..and he's from Lewisham!'

David Dein on Rocky Rocastle.

I wonder what Gazidis would have said......
