Arsène Wenger believes that clubs still pay over the odds for English players.
The biggest move of the January transfer window took place this week when Darren Bent completed a surprise switch from Sunderland to Aston Villa.
The deal is worth a reported £18 million but that could rise to £24 million depending on Bent’s success at Villa Park. According to Wenger that is proof that the English market is still inflated.
“They [Premier League signings] are very expensive - look at Bent,” he said.
“If you look at the transfer prices in England, the inflation is still there. They have added the VAT to all the prices.”
