Lets remind ourselves... (POTS results)

Postby Reverend Gooner » Fri Aug 13, 2010 12:22 am

...........of how our players performed last season as this season is about to begin. These results are belated due to laziness during the World Cup and laptop BSOD and breakdown afterwards but I managed to salvage the spreadsheets in the end.

For those who do not know these are the results of our "player of the season" project where members rate each players' performance after each and every game of the season and these results are tallied up and a mean is created to give each player a final score. As results are given after each match whilst the performance is fresh in members' mind and I also disregard what I believe are "bad reaction" votes (like all 1's and 2's) this is the most accurate way to gauge forum opinion over the course of the season.

I am very pleased to announce that Alexandre Song has been voted the 2009/2010 arsenal player of the season for his relentless hard work and supreme talent in the DMF position.

Here are the results from top to bottom with games played next to them and sub appearances in brackets. Marks are out of 10. Those who made less than 10 appearances are not included.

1) Alexandre Song............7.31.... 36
2) Cesc Fabregas.............7.14...... 34
3) Thomas Vermaelen.......7.12....... 44
4) Sol Campbell..............6.95.........11
5) Samir Nasri................6.85......27 (5)
6) William Gallas.............6.81......34
7) Thomas Rosicky...........6.67......... 17 (13)
8) Robin Van Persie.........6.66..........18 (1)
9) Aaron Ramsey.............6.53..........13 (2)
10) Andrei Arshavin.........6.47..........32 (2)
11) Gael Clichy...............6.47.......... 33
12) Emmanuel Eboue........6.41........... 26 (10)
13) Nicklas Bendtner.......6.25.......... 22 (8)
14) Abou Diaby..............6.21........... 33 (3)
15) Backary Sagna...........6.2.............39 (3)
16) Lukas Fabianski........6.19........... 20 (1)
17) Eduardo.................6.15............ 17 (12)
18) Theo Walcott.......... 6.11.......... 16 (12)
19) Mikel Silvestre......... 6.03........... 13 (4)
20) Jack Wilshere......... 5.97.......... 6 (5)
21) Denilson............... 5.95............ 24 (1)
22) Carlos Vela............ 5.71............ 6 (9)
23) Manuel Almunia....... 5.5.............. 34
24) Armand Traore........ 4.77............. 11

He played less than 10 but I know it will interest people so note that Mannone scored 6.49 over 7 games.

Special mention goes to Thomas Vermaelen for being a debutee and also for playing so many games at a consistently high standard and also to Sol man for coming back and doing what he did at his age.

How did Eboué not finish top?

Jus kiddin, I dont think anyone can argue with the top 5 there, and Song was my player of the season.

You've given GG some more ammunition for his "Mannone for number 1" thread, stats speak volumes.

Good work Rev and I appreciate it. I'd say those results are pretty accurate, and we as a forum did a good job with ratings for the most part.

Cheers mate and I agree. Out of all the members votes over all the games I only had to disregard a few because of knee jerkness.

Also out of interest if I included those who played less than 10 games, Gibbs would have come 7th with 6.77 which is very impressive.

His problem is he seems incredibly disinterested at times.

how does it work exactly? is 5 average? I'm used to playing champ manager where 7 is average so it's obviously very different to that.

6 is the average which most players achieved.

He was doing alright overall but his performances in the second half of the season really blew his score.

Almunia's score is fairly damning.

That and people rate him a lot lower than he deserves in games because they don't like him.

I see Diaby way too high. I assume you counted all his 1's, 2's and -10's as knee jerk then.

Which is why I don't rate him very well.

He can be brilliant. But when it only comes around once every two months you're wasting our time in my opinion. Get back to me when he's showing up at least every other match. Then I'll start to rate him.

Don't misunderstand, I don't think he's shit. But he doesn't make me feel funny down there like many other members clearly feel about him.

Diaby had a good spell which really saved him. I did count the vast majority of low scores, it was mainly posts like

"All of them 0 as they are shit".

I would say out of the hundreds of posts voting in the end I voided 10 at the most.

This is just what people think of Diaby and I thought an average season is just about right, he had some awful games but he had some good games too.
