From Robert Reich on Facebook:

Trump has picked Scott Pruitt to run the Environmental Protection Agency. Here are 6 things you need to know about him:

1. As attorney general of Oklahoma Pruitt is a close ally of the fossil fuel industry. A 2014 investigation by The Times found that energy lobbyists drafted letters for Pruitt to send to the E.P.A., the Interior Department, the Office of Management and Budget and even President Obama, criticizing Obama's environmental rules. The close ties have paid off for Pruitt politically: Harold G. Hamm, the chief executive of Continental Energy, an Oklahoma oil and gas company, was a co-chairman of Mr. Pruitt’s 2013 re-election campaign.

2. Pruitt shares Trump’s view that Obama’s signature global warming policy, the Clean Power Plan, is a “war on coal.”

3. Pruitt has been a key architect of the legal battle against Obama’s climate change rules -- spearheading a 28-state lawsuit against them. A decision is pending in a federal court and is widely expected to advance to the Supreme Court.

4. Pruitt shares Trump’s view that the established science of human-caused global warming is a hoax. “Scientists continue to disagree about the degree and extent of global warming and its connection to the actions of mankind,” Pruitt wrote in National Review earlier this year.

5. Pruitt also shares Trump’s view that the Paris accord, committing nearly every nation to taking action to fight climate change, should be canceled.

6. Pruitt is well positioned to help Trump dismantle the E.P.A. altogether. Like Trump, Pruitt doesn't believe the federal government has a role in setting environmental policy.

Trump will be nominating the most radical right-wing cabinet in American history -- including an EPA administrator who doesn't believe in regulating the environment, an Attorney General who doesn't believe in the Voting Rights Act, a Secretary of Education who doesn't believe in public education, a Secretary of Housing and Urban Development who doesn't believe in the Fair Housing Act, and a Secretary of Health and Human Services who doesn't believe in public health insurance.
And then there's Trump himself, who doesn't believe in anything except himself.

If you're not yet motivated to become part of the Peaceful Resistance starting January 20, I hope these irresponsible appointments galvanize you. We must stand up to this lunacy.

Watching from afar it amazes me how bad the 'losers' have become ... Obama, and I'm sure every other president before him, appointed a team that contained contentious choices ... as with most appointments in life the general rule of thumb is to give that person the opportunity to show what he can do ... it's a bit like a new signing for us ... don't slag him off until he's had a chance ...

However this time around (see Slick's post above) it seems every appointment is being derided before they've even taken the position ... so what's that all about?

The US now seems to be entirely driven by a biased media (left or right) and by a tiny minority of public opinion hell bent on telling the majority what to think and do ... that never ends well ...

Look guys under your electoral system guess what? ... bottom line Trump won ... you have to respect that and let him do what he's been elected to do ... in four year's time you can throw him out ... that's how Democracy works ...

Whining and complaining? just makes you all look stupid and is getting very tiring ... please just stop ...

2016 the year when criticising was rebranded as whining

A corrupt fuckwit US President hires special interests and dangerous morons to fill his cabinet after promising to "drain the swamp", "bring America together" and "fight against special interest groups" and you want people to "stop moaning"

Er, no.

Er, no.

Or the alternate view ...

A lawfully elected leader appointing the cabinet he believes will best serve the people who elected him ... just like the 44 presidents before him .... did they all appoint 'special interests and dangerous morons' as well?

Is he good or bad? feck only knows only time will tell .... yet as is the way of the modern world it seems like the vocal minority have made up their minds up already ... calling a lawfully elected leader, yet to take up his appointment, a 'corrupt fuckwit' that kinda sums up the standard of debate in the USA of today ...

Used to feel sorry for 'em now it's just funny .....

It kinda sums up the standard of debate when you call Donald Trump a corrupt fuckwit and point out that he's just appointed three executives from Goldman Sachs to his cabinet, and that point of view is challenged with "stop moaning"

I mean, seriously.

How bad do his cabinet appointments have to be before its ok to moan? Do you have to wait for a crocodile to eat a child before you can point out its a terrible choice to supervise a playground?

Look at your argument, are you saying that ... 'appointing people from Goldman Sachs makes you a corrupt fuckwit' ... please explain how that works ....

How many Goldman Sachs employees do you know? ... they employ over 34,000 people ... are you saying that anyone who employs an ex Goldman Sachs employee is therefore a 'corrupt fuckwit' .... or does it just apply to execs?

Obama's chief of staff to the treasury, Mark Patterson, is an ex Goldman Sachs executive ... thus under your argument that makes Obama a 'corrupt feckwit' am I right?

Having an 'opinion' is of course everyone's right ... using abuse based on utter nonsense to support that opinion ... that's just whining ....

So now your president elect is compared to a 'child eating crocodile' ... what are you smoking?

Firstly you should probably know that I'm not American

Secondly if you need it spelling out to you what is hypocritical, divisive and outright dangerous about Trump's cabinet choices, then I'm not going to be the one to spend the time doing it.

Gary Cohn and Scott Pruitt. Jesus wept. Maybe you should read up on those two.

These are decisions which affect the whole world.

I'm not digging you up in particular, my point is that to criticise and abuse people based on what you 'think' they might do makes no sense ...

You want to be judge, jury and executioner of Trump and his appointees before they even start work ... Gary Cohn and Scott Pruitt may prove to be the worst appointments in history, but they may not ...

I earlier used the analogy of a new player transfer ... it's kinda the same ....

Thierry Henry was a pretty shite winger, not bad as a striker, until you give a guy a chance you don't know ...

George Washington was a slaver, he owned slaves from the age of ten until his death, yet he's credited with being a major influence behind the abolition of slavery ...

You see leopards can change their spots given a fair chance ...

Don't condemn people whom I doubt you know on the basis of media driven bullshit ... give them a chance ...

Taxes on goods inherently get baked into the price to the consumer, fines for failing to meet targets/regulations are better as firms usually record them as one off costs (write them off).

Tobacco companies haven't exactly been hit by the tax on cigs going up, just the people who buy them. Obviously they get hit a little cos price up = less people buy them but end of the day they will keep their margin on each packet the same.

f***ing taxes blehhh, be taxing oxygen usage soon.
